Suburban Hospital

Dear friends and family,

As many of you know, a little more than 10 years ago this November, I was rushed to Suburban Hospital after having a heart attack. Their emergency and cardiology teams saved my life! Three stents were placed in the occluded coronary arteries to re-establish normal blood flow to my heart. While in the hospital, I vowed to become healthier and fitter and immediately set some goals for myself, including running the Boston Marathon. At the time, I had no idea that I needed to qualify to run Boston or just how difficult it would be. I simply thought that running a marathon in a city I love would be a great way to demonstrate my new commitment to health and fitness. Following discharge, I spent several months using Suburban’s cardiac rehab gym to fully recover and start on my journey to Boston, which I proudly accomplished in April 2019. Meeting my goal would not have been possible without the foundation for healthy and safe exercise that I built in the rehab program or without the assistance and encouragement of the rehab program manager, Jeanmarie.

Suburbans’ Cardiac Rehab center, which is obviously very near and dear to me, is funded by philanthropic support from the community. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was forced to temporarily shut down earlier this year. I often think about the hard-working staff there and what they’ve faced on the front-lines of this national emergency.

For the second year in a row, I have qualified to run the Boston Marathon. Unfortunately, the in-person 2020 Boston Marathon was canceled for the first time in its 124-year history, along with so many other races. However, that won’t stop me from participating virtually. I will run in the virtual Boston Marathon in September, and as my way of giving back to say thank you for more than a decade of good health, I am asking my family and friends to give a contribution of any amount so that Suburban Hospital can continue to help other cardiac patients like me.

Thank you in advance, and warm wishes.

P.S. I recently shared my story in this video with Suburban Hospital. Take a look and learn more about Suburban's amazing cardiac rehab program.
